RedEye Weekend Editor Tran Ha will be the editor of the high school newspaper the Chicago Tribune will launch at the beginning of the next school year, the paper said Thursday.

The weekly newspaper and Web site — which the Tribune has given the working title, TheMash — is targeted for Chicago Public School high school students, and will largely be written by them.

“The newspaper will feature student-generated and student-targeted editorial content, with student contributors receiving on-the-job journalism training by Tribune editors, who will review and edit all content,” the Tribune announcement said.

“Teens in Chicago are unique and deserve a paper and Web site that speaks to them,” Ha said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working with Chicago public high school students to bring the city a new, ground-breaking paper — one that gets students more interested in reading and writing.”

Ha joined the Tribune in 2003 as a copy editor for RedEye. In October 2005, she became an assistant features editor, before returning to RedEye in April 2007 to launch its home-delivered, by-request weekend edition.
