REUTERS, UNION REACH TENTATIVE CONTRACT AGREEMENT

After Prolonged Labor Talks

Reuters and its editorial union, which have been in labor talks since 1997, reached
a tentative contract agreement early this morning, a Reuters spokeswoman says.

Negotiations between Reuters and The Newspaper Guild of New York, which represents
some 250 journalists, had accelerated in recent days. Staffers, whose contract
expired in February 1998, had withheld bylines and staged a sickout in recent months
to protest the lack of progress in the negotiations.
