Reuters, Microsoft Form Alliance

Reuters yesterday named its Finance Director Rob Rowley to chief executive of Reuterspace,
the online division of Reuters.

Rowley will relinquish his role as finance director when a replacement has been found. He
will work with Jeremy Penn, executive vice president of strategy and marketing, and David
Turner, chief financial officer at Reuterspace.

Reuterspace, which was announced as part of Reuters Internet initiative on February 8, plans
to target media markets as well as business-to-business and consumer finance.

Reuters yesterday also announced an alliance with Microsoft that initially will develop
products for the financial services sector. As the two companies share technology and
resources, they plan to move into other vertical markets.

One of Reuters’ pet projects includes a personal portal called Reuters Digital Dashboard,
providing direct access to Reuters real-time and historical information. Other technology will
be developed to be compatible with Windows 2000 and Office 2000.
