Rob Mason, senior vice president, retail, services at Valassis, has been promoted to president of ADVO, effective at the close of Valassis? acquisition of ADVO.
In his new role, Mason will oversee profit and loss responsibilities, sales and marketing efforts, and the strategic direction for ADVO.
?Rob is a proven leader with an outstanding reputation in the media services industry,? Alan Schultz, Valassis chairman, president, and CEO, said in a statement. ?His outstanding leadership skills, sales prowess and integrity make him an ideal person to serve as president.?
Under Mason?s leadership, Valassis? retail and services division reaped $600 million in revenue. In the last two years, his division brought in over 50% of all new business.
After a tumultuous start, Valassis and ADVO agreed to merge on Dec. 19. Valassis will acquire ADVO for $33 per share or $1.2 billion. The deal was announced last July but hit roadblocks when Valassis sued ADVO claming fraud and misrepresentation. ADVO countersued. A mid-December trial was dismissed after both sides came to an agreement. The transaction is expected to close on Feb. 28.
