Fritz Jacobi announced his retirement as president and publisher of the Rockford (Ill.) Register Star Wednesday after eight years on the job. The announcement was part of a series of staff changes announced Wednesday by GateHouse Media, which owns the Register Star.
Jacobi will be replaced by Scott Bowers, the publisher of the Springfield State Journal Register. Bowers had been the controller at the Register Star before taking the Springfield postion. Bowers will keep his position at the State Journal Register in addition to his new Rockford duties.
In addition, Tom Lasley, longtime marketing development director of the Register Star, was promoted to general manger of the paper and will oversee day-to-day operations while Bowers divides his time between Springfield and Rockford. In Springfield, Mike Kreppert was promoted to the same position at the State Journal Register.
“I appreciate the opportunity Scott is giving me as well as the confidence he has placed in me,” Kreppert said in a statement. “I look forward to the challenge.”
Kreppert, currently a production manager at the Springfield paper, will officially start as general manager August 4. Jacobi’s last day in Rockford will be August 1.
