From today’s edition of the Rockford Register Star:
To our readers
Today, the Rockford Register Star announces the first significant reorganization of the newspaper since the debut of the new press more than five years ago, in May 2006.
After careful consideration and reader input, we’ve made the decision to publish in two sections on five days: Monday through Thursday and Saturday. Sunday will stay the same, and Friday will be in four sections.
Reducing the number of sections each day will save money on newsprint — one of the two most significant costs for a newspaper. Combining sections allows us to reduce our costs while preserving all the content you’ve come to expect.
The headline is: We’re combining sections — not eliminating content.
