The Sacramento Bee has launched a network that connects users to other local media sites and blogs called Sacramento Connect.
Sacramento Business Journal writer Melanie Turner reports the concept has been in the works for about a year, and that editors have been reviewing and ranking sites based on quality and the frequency of updates.
The network currently connects readers to about a dozen sites.
“We have a trusted position in the area, and thought it was time to embrace all these independent voices and bring them in and try and promote them,” Sean McMahon, the Bee’s digital product development manager, told Turner.
The Miami Herald and Charlotte Observer, two other McClatchy papers, are set to launch networks as well.
