Samantha Bennett of ‘Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’ Elected NSNC President

Samantha Bennett of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was elected president of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists yesterday during the NSNC conference in New Orleans.

Bennett, who succeeds Mike Argento of the York (Pa.) Daily Record, moves up from vice president.

The new vice president is Phil Reisman of The Journal News in White Plains, N.Y.

Other officers elected yesterday include:

— Newsletter Editor: Robert Haught, a self-syndicated columnist based in Virginia.

— Web Editor: Sheila Moss, self-syndicated out of Nashville, Tenn.

— Education Chair: Russell Frank, a Penn State University professor and columnist for Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa.

— Conference Chair – Jason Love of The Ventura (Calif.) County Star. (The NSNC’s 2009 conference will be in Ventura.)

The conference chair serves one year. The other officers serve two years.

There were also elections for:

— Treasurer: Don McNay, The Richmond (Ky.) Register, to complete the remaining one year of the term of Lindor Reynolds, who resigned.

— Contest Chair: Ann Fisher, The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch, to complete the remaining one year of the term of Stu Bykofsky, who resigned.
