‘Santa Cruz (Calif.) Sentinel’ Names Molly Evans President, Publisher

Molly Evans will become president and publisher of the Santa Cruz (Calif.) Sentinel effective Jan. 23 after serving as the paper’s general manager for the past year.

Evans, 48, will replace Dave Regan, who is retiring, and who she has worked with for the past year at the Ottaway Newspapers Inc. paper. She came to Santa Cruz following seven years as advertising director at the Cape Cod Times in Massachusetts, also an Ottaway newspaper. While there, Evans helped to develop an Internet sales strategy and to launch the glossy lifestyle magazine Cape Cod View.

After earning a bachelor’s in English from Eastern Connecticut State University, Evans began working in classified advertising sales and management, then served as an advertising and marketing director. She has worked in California once before in the advertising department at The Bakersfield Californian, in addition to papers in Connecticut, Tennessee, and Maine.

Regan, 65, joined the Sentinel staff as general manager in 1983, but began his career with Ottaway in 1964 as a printer at the Danbury (Conn.) News-Times. Before coming to California, Regan served Ottaway?s largest paper, the Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y., as production coordinator, production manager, assistant to the publisher and assistant general manager.
