Saudi Arabia’s Al Madina Printing and Publication Co. installed three Goss Universal 50 singlewide presses, bringing its Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam print sites from black-and-white to full color production.

According to General Manager Abdulhadi Bafakir, the company sought a singlewide, one-around press with four-high towers. Al Madina’s relationship with Goss spans more than 20 years, since it installed a series of Community presses. The press choice, said Bafakir, was based on color quality and the flexibility possible as needs change.

Each Universal press at Al Madina is configured as 10 four-high towers, three folders at the center of the press and 16 reelstands. Each press’ center towers will run four webs, printing 16 black-and-white pages — though each can, if needed, print color. Provision was made for the addition of another tower on each end and two two-high towers at the center of each press. The folders can operate simultaneously, producing three editions on each press.
