‘Scary Gary’ Comic Stars a Suburban Vampire

By: E&P Staff

A comic called “Scary Gary” has been introduced by Creators Syndicate.

Mark Buford’s “darkly humorous” strip centers around Gary the vampire and his “demonic sidekick” Leopold as they try to adjust to life in the suburbs. Another character is Travis, a severed head in a jar.

Buford is an Alabama native who grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta before earning a degree in psychology from the University of West Georgia.

He later became a freelance graphic designer who also did comics for magazines and alternative newspapers. The cartoonist landed his first syndication deal in 1997 for a daily strip called “Meatloaf Night.”
