Faye McBride has resigned as publisher of The Daily Sentinel in Scottsboro, Ala., to pursue other interests.
Her resignation was first reported Tuesday on the Daily Sentinel’s site. Dolph Tillotson, a vice president of Southern Newspapers Inc., which owns the Daily Sentinel, had met with the paper’s staff Tuesday morning to announce the changes.
The newspaper will be run by its department heads until the end of July, when 31-year-old Brad Shurett will become publisher. His father, Ben H. Shurrett, 57, will assist the department heads with the paper’s operations in the interim.
Ben H. Shurett is currently the publisher of the Sand Mountain Reporter, a nearby sister newspaper serving Albertville and Boaz. Brad Shurett is currently publisher of the South Pittsburg Hustler and the Jasper Journal in South Pittsburg, Tenn.
“I believe this is a good time for a change for my family and for me,” McBride said. “I know Brad Shurett well, and I’m confident he’ll do a great job and fit in well in Scottsboro.”
“We appreciate very much what Faye has done during her years at The Sentinel,” Tillotson told the paper, “and we’re pleased that someone with Brad’s sales experience and enthusiasm is available now to help manage the newspaper.”
