Scripps Adds Daily To Florida Cluster

The E.W. Scripps Co. and Freedom Communications Inc. have agreed to swap Scripps’
two weeklies and some cash for one of Freedom’s daily newspapers.

Scripps is getting The Tribune (Fort Pierce, Fla.), a daily with paid circulation
of 25,342, to add to its two other Florida properties, The Stuart News and the Vero
Beach Press Journal.

Freedom Communications, based in Irvine, Calif., got an undisclosed sum of cash, the
twice-weekly Destin (Fla.) Log, and the weekly Walton Log.

‘Acquiring The Tribune is consistent with the Scripps strategy to cluster our
newspapers in growing, mid-sized markets,’ said William R. Burleigh, chairman and CEO
for Scripps.
