SCRIPPS SHUFFLES LEADERSHIP IN CALIFORNIA, TENNESSEE

Ventura Publisher Heads East



The E.W. Scripps Co. of Cincinnati named John P. Wilcox, currently publisher of the Ventura
County Star in California, executive vice president and general manager of The Commercial
Appeal in Memphis, Tenn. He replaces Richard Remmert, who now heads special projects for
Scripps newspapers.



In charge of business, sales, and production, Wilcox will report to Angus McEachran, editor
and president.



Timothy J. Gallagher was named president and editor of the Star. He has been vice president
and editor since 1995.


Patrick J. Birmingham, currently senior vice president, was named executive vice president and
general manager.
