Scripps Howard News Service is moving a package of stories and charts based on a three-month investigation of how missing children are reported.
SHNS found that police departments fail to correctly report thousands of missing kids to the FBI in violation of federal law — jeopardizing the chances of safely recovering these children.
At least three major law-enforcement agencies have changed their policies because of the SHNS study, according to the news service. They include the Detroit Police Department, the Honolulu Police Department, and the U.S. Navy’s Criminal Investigative Service.
