The television newsman who won fame as the “Scud Stud” during the first Iraq war has filed a lawsuit in New York City accusing a reporter of libeling him when he ran for political office in Canada.
Arthur Kent’s lawsuit says reporter Don Martin called him the “Dud Scud” and wrote false and damaging statements about him in an article published in the Calgary Herald on Feb. 13, 2008.
Martin and his employer said in a statement Thursday they had no comment.
Kent won fame reporting the 1991 Gulf War from Bagdad rooftops while Scud missiles exploded in midair behind him.
In March, he lost a provincial election running as a Progressive Conservative Party candidate in the Calgary area. He says Martin’s article stated he was “not fit for elected office” and lacked his party’s support.
