Newstec of Walpole, Mass., is providing The Seattle Times with an integrated post-press control system for its Bothell, Wash., production plant.

Beginning this month, Newstec will upgrade the plant’s Harris 2299 inserters with its own controls and will interface with the Times’ Burt front-end system using NEWSplan. NEWStack and NEWSwrap will control stackers and bottomwrap labelers, respectively. The company also will interface the paper’s tray system with NEWScom.

Calling the project “a comprehensive, detailed solution for the integration of our post-press system,” Times Engineering Manager Dana Reed expressed confidence that the new controls will enable production of labeled bundles for smaller zones, and better Sunday and daily package management and reporting.
