James F. Vesely, editorial page editor of The Seattle Times, has announced he is retiring after nearly 20 years at the paper.
Vesely, 68, joined the Times in 1991 as associate editorial page editor. He was named editorial page editor in 2001. In addition to overseeing the editorial page, he has written a commentary column focused on Seattle?s Eastside communities and growth-management issues.

voice and staff to be the most respected and influential in our long history,? said Publisher/CEO Frank Blethen.
Before joining the Times, Vesely served as managing editor of the Detroit News. Before that, he served as editor of the Anchorage (Alaska) Times.
