Seidel Enterprises Inc. in Easton, Pa., has ramped up its field rebuilding, with orders for work at sites owned by a dozen newspaper groups.

CNHI sites include the Record Eagle, Traverse City, Mich. (SLS1000 conveyor rebuild), The News, Port Arthur, Texas (feeder rebuild), New Castle (Pa.) News (web-width reduction and SLS1000 installation), The Daily Independent, Ashland, Ky. (conveyor), Southeast Kentucky Publishing, London (SLS1000 rebuild).

Gary White, plant manager in London, credited the SE OnSite team with “tireless” work and “excellent” follow-up on a machine that was “not even running when they arrived.”

At Freedom Communications, the Times News, Burlington, N.C., retained SE OnSite for a field rebuild of its SLS2000, The Gazette, Colorado Springs, Colo., had a SLS2000 conveyor rebuilt, the Gaston Gazette, Gastonia, N.C., contracted for an SE OnSite web-width reduction and SLS1000 conveyor rebuild,

The Monitor, McAllen, Texas, had an SLS2000 rebuilt and an SLS1000 relocated and remanufactured, and The Lima (Ohio) News needed a web-width reduction and feeder remanufacture.

Seidel Enterprises modified equipment for a reduced web width at six Gannett Co. dailies in five states around the country, where it also exchanged a feeder drum at The Reporter, Fond du Lac, Wisc., and rebuilt an SLS1000 conveyor at The Advocate, Newark, Ohio.

The inserter at Gannett’s Fort Collins Coloradoan is running better since the cut down, according to Production Director Jerry O. Quinn, who said in a statement that “net speeds are up by around 20- to 25%, especially on Sunday, which we insert live. The cut down was a non-event from our standpoint.”
