(Mediaweek.com) Jonathan Adelstein, a Democrat, was confirmed late Thursday by the Senate as the fifth member of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Adelstein’s confirmation had languished due to disputes unrelated to his nomination since President Bush named him to the post in February.
An aide to Sen. Thomas Daschle (D-S.D.), Adelstein becomes the second Democrat on the five-member FCC, which also has three Republicans including Chairman Michael Powell.
The Senate, seeking to lessen acrimony before control shifts from Democrats to Republicans next year, on Thursday cleared several federal judgeships. As part of the maneuvers it approved Adelstein on a voice vote.
