Newspaper Web site traffic hit a record in September with more than 58 million people visiting a newspaper site, according to data from Nielsen//NetRatings on behalf of the Newspaper Association of America.
During 3Q roughly 57 million people or more than one-third of all active Internet users visited newspaper Web sites each month, a 23.9% increase from the same period a year ago.
Additionally, users are lingering there longer: An average visitor spends 41.5 minutes per month on a newspaper Web site, a 10.9% increase compared to the same period a year ago.
?These sites are doing a fantastic job of serving the information needs of both print readers and people who haven?t traditionally used the newspaper, especially young audiences accustomed to having information available at their fingertips online,? said John Sturm, president and CEO of the NAA, in a statement.
