Rosenthal will direct a staff of 480. The appointment was announced Friday by Executive Editor Phil Bronstein.

Rosenthal held a series of positions at the Inquirer, including associate managing editor, city editor, and foreign editor. He served as the paper’s African correspondent and covered Israel’s invasion of Lebanon in 1982.
