NorthWest News Group of Greater Chicago will convert the seven weekly Lake County (Ill.) Journals from paid circulation through the mail to free delivery by carrier, and is more than doubling the distribution to more than 50,000 copies.
NorthWest, a group inside family-owned Shaw Newspapers of Dixon, Ill., now distributes about 20,000 copies of the seven weeklies , which it acquired in December 2005. The conversion to free distribution with some paid single-copy will take place Oct. 4.
Lake County editions of Market Journal, a TMC-like (total market coverage) publication delivered to targeted households that do not subscribe to the Journals, will become the weekly marketing/classified section inside the weeklies.
NorthWest already distributes free papers, having converted its Weekly Journal newspapers in Kane and DeKalb counties.
A recent independent survey indicated that 96 percent of residents who receive the Weekly Journals read those papers on a regular or occasional basis, NorthWest Publisher John Rung said.
“We are confident that distribution model will enjoy similar success in Lake County,” he said in a statement.
NorthWest News Group also publishes two daily newspapers in Illinois, the Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake, and the Kane County Chronicle in Geneva.
