Scripps Howard News Service will move a story Tuesday noting that the increasing size of National Football League players is leading to early deaths.
A SHNS study found that at least 130 players born since 1955 have died before their 50th birthday — 20% of heart disease — and 77 of the deceased were so overweight that doctors would have classified them as obese.
“As America anticipates Sunday’s Super Bowl,” said SHNS, “physicians are increasingly questioning whether, by bulking up for their shot at fame and fortune, players are sacrificing their health later in life.”
The story includes graphics, photos, and sidebars — including one about high school players being pressured to “supersize.”
