Should Facebook and Google Have to Pay the Media?

News media are in crisis. Like many other industries, they’ve lost a huge chunk of revenue to the pandemic as advertising has dried up. What makes it worse for media is that they were already in deep trouble.

The calculated on April 10 that some 36,000 newsroom employees in the United States had been laid off, furloughed, or taken pay cuts since the coronavirus hit.

    Unfortunately, the short answer is no. Assuming news media’s continued existence is important is proving to be nonessential for the consumer. Since 2008, print media have faced a constant loss of advertising revenue decimating the industry. Publishers have faced two realities during the past twelve years…..Get it right or perish. Apple. Google and Facebook are prodigious in size, cash-rich, and are fiercely entrepreneurial in spirit. Sadly, for print media, this cabal controls the driver’s seat.
