Three years after it announced it was changing formats, The Times of Shreveport, La., is joining the list of papers making the switch to a Berliner.

The Gannett Co. daily is scheduled to become a full-color Berliner on Sept. 27. The Times revealed in 2007 that it was altering its size as part of a $15 million project centered around a reconditioned vintage Wifag OF790 press that has 4×4-color printing towers, two folders, and six reelstands.

Built in 1991, the press was obtained from Graphic Web Systems B.V. of the Netherlands. CTP systems from Kodak and a plate bender from Burgess Industries Inc. will also be utilized.

With the installation of the reconditioned Wifag offset press, no Gannett newspaper will print on a letterpress press. The Times’ former press, a Goss Headliner, was installed in 1961.
