Web Syndicator Offers News Packages

ScreamingMedia of New York yesterday launched News!Stand, a prepackaged news feed for Web
sites that culls content from various providers, including the New York Times Syndicate,
USAToday.com, and many newspapers.

The company says the service is meant to be an affordable way for sites to supplement their
coverage with stories from elsewhere. News!Stand packages of 10 stories per day are
available in 13 categories, including national news, world news, business, technology,
health, sports, celebrities, and TV. The company says each package is updated automatically
at least twice daily by editors at ScreamingMedia.

A client-side JavaScript is used to pull news stories directly to the customer’s Web page.
Contributing news sources are given credit at the beginning of each story.

The service can be seen at Fanz.com, Applied Information Services, FamilyInternet.com, and
Trivergent Inc.

The service will also be offered to over 100,000 small business Web sites in the Concentric
Network, a partner of ScreamingMedia.

Some other companies offer headline feeds to Web sites. For example, Moreover.com offers
customized headline feeds to sites for free. But Moreover.com’s service provides links back to
the originating Web sites, unlike ScreamingMedia’s new product.
