The Arizona Republic Works With SoftBook Press
In an unusual application of an electronic book device, The Arizona Republic will
soon be using more than 2,000 SoftBook Readers to distribute newspapers more
effectively in the Phoenix area.
Delivery staff for the paper will use the SoftBook Reader’s built-in modem to
download route information every night. A personal computer is not required. Each
day, the SoftBook Reader will display new customers, suspended delivery requests
for those on vacation, and other route info.
During a five-month test period, missed and erroneous deliveries were reduced on
some routes by as much as 50%, says Chris Christian, Republic director of
The Republic is also the Phoenix-area distributor of The New York Times and The
Investors Business Daily.
