‘South Bend Tribune’ Wins Libel Suit

By: The Associated Press

(AP) A real estate investor who filed a libel lawsuit against the South Bend Tribune has been ordered to pay more than $47,000 to the newspaper for legal costs.

A St. Joseph County judge in December dismissed the lawsuit from Michael Sheneman over a 2007 article in the newspaper about accusations by several African immigrants that Sheneman defrauded them through real estate investment schemes.

Sheneman hasn’t faced criminal charges in that matter but pleaded guilty in 2008 to a felony charge of fondling a 15-year-old girl.
