The 123-year-old South Pasadena Review, a weekly newspaper owned and operated by the Ericson family since 1947, has been sold to SCG LLC, a newly formed group of local investors, it was announced Wednesday.
As part of the transaction, SCG LLC is also taking ownership of The Review’s sister publication, The Quarterly, a lifestyle magazine serving the greater Pasadena area.
The Review’s owner Bill Ericson started working in the family’s newspaper business in 1947. After his father passed away, Bill worked with his mother Billie Ericson for several years before becoming publisher in 1978. In the mid 1980’s, Mr. Ericson started The Quarterly Magazine, mailed to all residents and businesses of South Pasadena, San Marino, and select areas of La Canada, Flintridge, Pasadena, and San Gabriel. The Quarterly is published four times a year.
“I am happy to find a good steward for the continued publication of the Review and Quarterly,” said Bill Ericson. “I am looking forward to my retirement years ahead.”
SCG LLC took ownership of the paper on June 1st. JP Media Partners, a newspaper merger-and-acquisition firm based in Folsom, CA, represented Mr. Ericson in the transaction.
