‘Spectrum’ Selects FasTrak Violet for CTP

By: E&P Staff

The St. George (Utah) Spectrum installed two FasTrak violet platesetters from alfaQuest Technologies. At 69-by-35 inches each, they fit into the space occupied by the film imagesetters they replaced.

The 23,386-circulation Spectrum images approximately 4,000 double-truck plates per month. Production Director Scott Porter cited the machines’ simple maintenance and operation and the exposed plates’ sharp dots and consistent registration.

The manually fed flatbed computer-to-plate imager features a new transport mechanism with fewer moving parts, and delivers plates directly to online processors.

AlfaQuest rates the FasTrak at up to 225 broadsheet pages per hour at 1,016 dpi. A Trakmate II autoloader, holding 1,000 plates, can be quickly connected to the FasTrak.
