The Society of Professional Journalists will launch a “Journalism Education Series” early next year under the auspices of its new speakers bureau.
SPJ’s series and bureau aim to inform the general public about the core principles of good journalism, the standards under which news organizations operate, the challenges journalists confront when gathering the news, and more.
Christine Tatum, SPJ’s president and an assistant business editor at The Denver Post, said the series and bureau will help “make newsgathering more transparent to the general public and encourage more people to engage with news organizations everywhere.”
Market Wire, which distributes corporatepress releases, will be the speakers bureau’s first client. MW plans to present the Journalism Education Series to professionals working in investor, media, and public relations. At the same time, SPJ plans to deliver the series (the development of which is made possible in part because of MW’s initial investment) to community and civic groups.
MW distributes content to thousands of media outlets, including the Associated Press and Reuters.
