Site To File For Bankruptcy

The sports news and feature site Quokka told employees that it
will shut down next week, according to a report published
Wednesday on The Industry Standard Web site. The San
Francisco-based company will lay off its 220 employees.

Also on Wednesday, CBS SportsLine said it would lay off 92
people.

Quokka has partnerships with NBC and the Olympics, but has been
unable to generate sufficient revenue, according to the
Standard’s story. The company started as a sailing Web
site about five years ago before expanding to cover other sports.
