Woodland Park, NJ – The Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) has placed Bob Klapisch in the nation’s top 5 sports columnists for The Record’s circulation category in their annual contest for 2011. This is the fourth consecutive top 10 win for Bob and the second time he has placed in the top 5. Tara Sullivan finished in the top 10 for her column and Jeff Roberts finished in the top 10 for beat writing.

The APSE awards excellence in sports journalism based on content, layout and graphics. The Record was recognized with an honorable mention in the 75,001-175,000 circulation category for daily and Sunday Sports sections.

“What a great Triple Crown for the Sports Department,” notes Director of Sports John Balkun. “Bob and Tara being named top 10 columnists in the country and Jeff winning the same honor as a beat writer is truly incredible and a testament to their hard work and dedication to their craft.”

Final rankings for the writing categories have been announced on the APSE website.  All awards will be announced at the annual ceremony, which takes place June 20-23 in Chicago this year.

Readers can find the Sports section and the writers’ action-packed coverage of professional and local sports in North Jersey every day in The Record and on NorthJersey.com.
