Margo C. Pope has been named the new editorial page editor for The St. Augustine (Fla.) Record.

Pope, 59, has served as the Record’s associate editor since 2001. She started in journalism as a high school correspondent for the newspaper while still a student at St. Joseph Academy.

After graduating from the University of Florida in 1970, Pope joined The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville as a general assignment reporter and became education writer in 1972, a position she held for 11 years. She was later named features editor.

Pope joined the Record in 1988 as managing editor.

She succeeds Jim Sutton, who left the newspaper in September.
