Campbell To Join Poynter



Cole C. Campbell announced his resignation yesterday as editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,

the newspaper’s Web site reports:

The Web site described staff members as ‘stunned’ by the surprise announcement. After serving

the paper for 3 1/2 years, Campbell will leave April 15 to join the Poynter Institute for Media

Studies in St. Petersburg, Fla.



Publisher Terrance C.Z. Egger praised Campbell for building the paper’s national reputation and

a strategic plan for the publication.



Egger will not appoint an interim editor while a replacement is sought. The newsroom will be

guided by Executive Editor Richard K. Weil Jr., Managing Editor Arnie Robbins, Editorial Page Editor Christine A. Bertelson, and Deputy Editor Virgil Tipton.
