George Arwady, publisher of the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Gazette, has been named publisher of The Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J., the newspaper confirmed Monday.
Arwady will replace outgoing publisher Linda Dennery, who is leaving the job to take a corporate level post with Advance Publications, the owner of both newspapers. Arwady will begin his new duties on Aug. 9, Dennery said.
Dennery leaves her post after more than four and a half years to become executive vice president of benefits for Advance Newspaper Group. She has held the publisher’s job since October 1999, taking over after the death of former publisher Martin Bartner.
Advance Newspaper Group owns 21 dailies. The Star-Ledger, with a daily circulation of 407,945, is the chain’s largest circulation paper.
