The Star Tribune, Minneapolis, has won a national Edward R. Murrow Award for overall excellence in online news, marking the first time the Radio Television Digital News Association association has honored audio and video news produced exclusively for online news organizations.
The winning entry was a 40-minute compilation video that captured breaking news (plane crash, river flooding), deep enterprise (whistleblower), humor (“The Flu and You”), the Brett Favre saga and an online news report.
Earlier this year, the Star Tribune won five Murrow Awards in the regional competition.
The eight “Overall Excellence” winners also included the Associated Press, which won in the Online News Operation – National category.
