Stephen Bernard Named McClatchy’s New VP/Advertising

Stephen Bernard has been named to the newly created position of vice president/advertising at McClatchy. Bernard most recently was head advertising executive at the McClatchy-owned Sacramento Bee.

In his new position, Bernard will work on major accounts and execute new initiatives to drive sales throughout the company working closely with McClatchy’s vice presidents of operations and interactive media.

“This new role emphasizes McClatchy’s commitment to better serving our large retail and national customers,” Bob Weil, McClatchy’s vice president of operations, said in statement. “We are taking this step to make it easier for our major advertisers to have a single point of contact to facilitate online and print campaigns when buying advertising in multiple McClatchy markets.”

Bernard’s career includes advertising positions at The Courier Journal in Louisville, Ky., San Bernardino County Sun, and the Dayton Daily News. He also managed the Atlanta office of Newspaper Services of America.

The company also has appointed Al Autry to succeed Bernard at the Sacramento Bee. He was most recently the senior vice president of advertising at The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C.
