Stephens Media Group, which already published 14 newspapers in Arkansas, expanded its presence in the center of the state Thursday with the purchase of two weeklies, the North Little Rock Times and the Maumelle Monitor.
Las Vegas, Nev.-based Stephens bought the papers from David and Kitty Chism of KDC Communications. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Cribb & Associates represented the Chisms in the sale of the newspapers.
The Maumelle Monitor has an estimated paid circulation of 3,200, according to the Editor & Publisher International Year Book. The North Little Rock Times has an estimated paid circulation of 8,097, according to the Year Book.
Dennis A. Byrd, chief of the Arkansas News Bureau, was appointed publisher of the two papers. Stephens said he will continue to oversee the bureau
