Steven T. Broas has been appointed president and CEO of Fort Wayne Newspapers and publisher of the Indiana city’s The News-Sentinel, effective Jan. 9. He replaces Mary Jacobus, who was named president and general manager of The Boston Globe in December.
Broas, 43, is currently director of retail development on the Knight Ridder corporate marketing staff. Prior to that, he served as vice president of advertising at The Kansas City Star.
“[Broas’] strong history of revenue and profit achievement in Kansas City made him a natural to help stimulate core revenue growth and product diversification at our other large newspapers,” Paula Ellis, Knight Ridder vice president of operations, said in a statement.
In his most recent role, Broas developed a five-month project in Philadelphia that drove over $10 million of incremental revenue for Philadelphia Newspapers, Inc.
In Fort Wayne, Knight Ridder is in a joint operating agreement with the Journal Gazette Co., which publishes The Journal Gazette.
