The June 20 storms that blew through south-central Montana, flooding some areas and ripping apart others with tornados, took a toll on The Billings Gazette.
Water in the flooded basement measured almost a foot deep at the reelstands and damaged up to 60 rolls of newsprint, causing a two-hour delay in the Sunday press run, according to the Lee Enterprises daily, which ran photos of its reelroom.
“It was a great, great effort on the part of employees to get the press running,” Operations Director Jim Gaasterland, told Gazette reporter Donna Healy.
Healy also reported damage to some photographic negatives and bound volumes of the newspaper that were damaged in the Gazette‘s archives were sent to a restoration service.
