‘Stratford Star’ Names New Editor

The Stratford (Conn.) Star has named John Kovach its new editor.

Kovach most recently served as editor of the New Canaan (Conn.) Advertiser, a position he’d held since September of 1997.

?John is an excellent newspaper editor who has worked tirelessly for his readers, the paper and his staff,? Martin V. Hersam, COO of parent company Hersam Acorn Newspapers, told the Star. ?He has worked through some of New Canaan?s most interesting and challenging times ? making sure that the breadth and balance of the Advertiser?s coverage was second to none.?

A New Jersey native, Kovach graduated from the University of Bridgeport in 1987. His first job in journalism was as sports editor of the Darien News-Review, a post he held from July 1987 to March 1988. Kovach then worked as a sportswriter for The Hour in Norwalk for five years, leaving in 1993 to become assisstant editor of the startup Darien Times, where he stayed until he joined the Advertiser.
