Student journalists at Youngstown State University are involved in a special reporting project on the one-year anniversary of West Virginia’s Sago mine disaster. Twelve men were killed.

Fourteen students spent the week in Sago doing profiles of surviving families and stories on rescue equipment and how rescuers communicated.

Journalism faculty members Tim Francisco and Alyssa Lenhoff chose Sago for the field project because of the unanswered questions surrounding the disaster.

The (Youngstown) Vindicator newspaper and Vindy-dot-com Web site will publish and podcast some of the stories.
