The editor of the student newspaper at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi says some fraternity brothers of a former student tried to stop the distribution of the paper that carried a news story about the young man’s guilty plea involving smuggling of undocumented immigrants in South Texas.
The story in the Island Waves paper largely recapped an article reported by the San Antonio Express-News in November. One of the students involved, Jake Woerner, pleaded guilty and was put on probation. A member of Kappa Sigma, he has since graduated.
