Fox Valley Publications of Aurora, Ill. — which owns four daily papers in the Chicago suburbs — is selling three of the newspapers’ buildings and consolidating their production efforts into the fourth.
In stories published in each of the affected papers today, Fox Valley — which is owned by the Sun-Times News Group — reported plans to put the buildings housing The Courier News in Elgin, The Herald News in Joliet and The Naperville Sun up for sale, and lease space in each community for ongoing local coverage.
Production efforts would be consolidated at the news group’s Beacon News in Aurora.
“We remain committed to maintaining a local office and staff within the communities we serve,” Fred Lebolt, president and publisher of Fox Valley Publications, said in the stories. Lebolt was named president in December.
“Employees, he said, will continue to provide local news, information and advertising for their communities,” the papers reported. “Each paper’s managing editor, reporters and photographers, as well as local sales managers, will stay at the local offices.” It noted that other employees would relocate to the company’s main office at The Beacon News in Aurora.
Fox Valley Publications also produces 12 weekly newspapers.
