Sandra Sugawara has been named assistant managing editor for financial news of The Washington Post, replacing Jill Dutt, who was named Thursday as assistant managing editor/weekend.
Sugawara was most recently a deputy editor in the business section, and has also managed the paper?s immigration coverage over the past year, reported the Post.
Her journalism career began in 1977 with United Press International. She then worked for the States News Service in Washington, D.C., and served as a Washington Correspondent for The Times in Trenton, N.J.
In 1982, she joined the Washington Post as a Metro reporter in Fairfax County, Va., and then at the paper?s bureau in Richmond, Va. She then moved to the business desk, and went abroad from 1995 to 1999 as the Post?s Asian economics correspondent. Upon her return to Washington, she was named deputy business editor.
Sugawara will assume her new duties in January.
