Fired Kentucky State University President George W. Reid is leaving the Bluegrass State — and packing in his $15-million lawsuit against The State Journal, the 8,944-weekday-circulation newspaper in Frankfort, Ky.
Reid’s lawyer has told the newspaper he will move for dismissal of the suit, which was filed in December 2000 and claimed the daily defamed him when it reported the previous October on charges he faked some of his academic credentials (E&P, Dec. 18, 2000).
“I am not surprised [Reid dropped the suit] because his claims were baseless,” State Journal Publisher Ann Dix Maenza said in a story by reporters Beth Crace And Fred Lucas. “Our story was a fair and accurate account of a public document.”
