Canada’s largest chain of tabloid and community newspapers will soon be using MediaSpan’s Jazbox content management system to create a cross media content delivery system for its over 4,000 local media properties, which include the country’s busiest Web portal.
The system, which will be launched initially on five of the Sun Media Corporation’s eight Canadian metro dailies (with a combined weekly circulation of 6.5 million copies), will give the entire company a distributed server environment that to allow immediate cross-media searches for stories, photos, graphics, audio and video files across all of the company’s media properties using the system. Among the initial launch group are The Toronto Sun, Calgary Sun, The Edmonton Sun, The Ottawa Sun, and The Winnipeg Sun.
The search system will give all staffers with the proper security clearance access to all the information created anywhere within the Sun organization.
“We liked Jazbox’s overall product portfolio and its ease of use,” said Monika Piotrowski, SunMedia’s Corporate Director of Information Technology in a statement. “Also, we needed to deploy this product on a very aggressive schedule and MediaSpan was truly the only company with the ability to respond to our national communication and production needs, and deliver on the schedule we demand.”
The company also plans to use the system to create a central assignment desk for all its properties.
