By: Press Release | Sun-Times Media

CHICAGO, Illinois, July 19, 2011 – Sun-Times Media Productions, LLC today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Chicago Tribune Media Group to print and package the Chicago Sun-Times and seven of the company’s suburban newspapers.  This agreement, taken together with earlier agreements that provide for the distribution of Sun-Times Media’s daily newspapers in Chicago and the suburbs, will permit Sun-Times Media to exit completely the newspaper print manufacturing and distribution business.

“Sun-Times Media has made the strategic decision to focus with great intensity on content and the creation of award-winning newspapers and web sites.  We have become exclusively a content creation company.  This is how we will best serve our readers and our advertisers.  Exiting the newspaper production and distribution business is a sound and prudent decision that will help us ensure a bright future for our business and our newspapers.  We owe this to our customers, employees, investors and the communities that we serve” said Jeremy L. Halbreich, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sun-Times Media.

When the transition is complete, all of the Sun-Times Media products except the Pioneer Press weekly newspapers will be printed at the Chicago Tribune’s state-of-the-art Freedom Center printing facility in Chicago.  Pioneer newspapers will continue to be printed by another third party vendor.

“Chicago Tribune Media Group has built one of the best newspaper printing facilities in the nation” said Rick Surkamer, President and Chief Operating Officer of Sun-Times Media.  “The agreement we announced today allows us to make a quantum leap forward in terms of technology, color capacity and other printing capabilities.”

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
